A Kentucky distillery has revived its popular cigar-pairing concept with a new bourbon expression, just as the state prepares for its annual bourbon celebrations.
Buzzard’s Roost Distillery announced that its Cigar Blend Bourbon will be released on September 5th, marking the company’s return to cigar-focused spirits following the sellout success of its Cigar Rye. The 6-year-old bourbon arrives at 105 proof and carries a suggested retail price of $85.
The new release coincides with both the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and Bourbon Heritage Month, positioning the product for maximum exposure among whiskey enthusiasts. The distillery will pour samples at its festival booth from September 4th-7th.
Buzzard’s Roost Cigar Blend Bourbon Production Methods
The bourbon features a mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley. Buzzard’s Roost employed its proprietary double oak process, aging the spirit in lightly charred, heavily toasted barrels to develop specific flavor characteristics.
“Our unique double oak process really shines in this bourbon,” said Jason Brauner, co-founder and master blender. “From our 17 different barrel profiles, we choose a handful of barrels for secondary maturation that we knew would bring out specific aromas and flavors that would complement a fine cigar, just as a great red wine complements a juicy steak.”
According to official tasting notes, the bourbon has subtle smoky aromas alongside sweet caramel and baking spices. The finish features campfire, spice cookie, and caramel apple notes.
Additional Cigar Blend Bourbon Options
The Cigar Blend Bourbon will be available through the distillery’s website and at Whiskey Row starting September 5. Buzzard’s Roost has also announced limited single barrel offerings of barrel-strength Cigar Blend Bourbon and Cigar Blend Rye. Interested buyers can contact the distillery directly for information about single barrel purchases.
The release of Buzzard’s Roost Cigar Blend Bourbon carries personal significance for company leadership. “My father and grandmother loved good cigars, and this bourbon brings me happy memories with every sip,” noted Judy Hollis Jones, Buzzard’s Roost co-founder and CEO.
