I may get grief about the proof difference with the bottle in the middle but I don’t care. I wanted to put the 3 best ryes I’ve ever had up against each other. I’m only bummed I didn’t get to include Michters 10 Rye or Barrel proof rye. In order the best was 1) 2022 Saz 18 2) MGP 95/5 9 year cask strength rye Beast Masters pick 3) 2024 THH. The Saz 18 is the only rye I’ve ever tasted that has the oak funk of a RR15 or M10 bourbon, but it’s also got that fruity rye flavor and spice that is so distinct in a rye. The MGP 95/5 pick is a rye drinkers rye, no question. But it is so rich, thick, viscus, and the flavor lingers for days. This year’s THH is a bit of a let down I guess? Not a bad pour by any means, but it tastes like cask strength Sazerac 🤷♂️. Bottom line, Saz 18 is special and if you like Ryes and see a cask strength 95/5 offering with a little age on it, I think it’s a BIN. submitted by /u/Mabyrum8 |
